About Tortoise Performance

Tortoise Performance is a UK-based strength & conditioning company founded by Matt Little — Strength & Conditioning Coach to Sir Andy Murray for 17+ years (2007–2024). Tortoise Performance produces structured, periodised training programmes designed for tennis players, racket-sport athletes, and recreational athletes who want to train with the same principles used at the elite level.

Our flagship product is the Tortoise Performance mobile application, which delivers professionally designed strength & conditioning programmes with video demonstrations, coaching cues, and progress tracking. The app is available on iOS and Android.

About the Founder — Matt Little

Matt Little has been Sir Andy Murray's Strength & Conditioning Coach since 2007. Over 17+ years working together, Matt has been part of the team behind three Grand Slam titles (Wimbledon 2013 and 2016, US Open 2012), two Olympic gold medals (London 2012 and Rio 2016), the ATP World Tour Finals title in 2016, and Andy reaching World No. 1 in November 2016.

Matt was a member of the Great Britain Davis Cup team that won the trophy in 2015 — Britain's first Davis Cup victory in 79 years — and previously served as the Strength & Conditioning Manager at the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), responsible for the physical preparation of Britain's leading tennis players. Matt has over 25 years of experience in elite tennis performance.

The Tortoise Method

Our coaching philosophy is built on patience, consistency, and intelligent progression. Slow, steady, deliberate work over the long term beats short-term intensity every time. Programmes are organised in four progressive phases:

  1. Foundation — Master fundamental movement patterns and build joint integrity.
  2. Accumulation — Add progressive volume across the right movement patterns.
  3. Intensification — Heavier loads, faster speeds, more demanding challenges.
  4. Realisation — Pull volume back, hold intensity, and arrive at the moment that matters.
